For a small island, Barra packs a lot in, with fine beaches, soaring mountains, a romantic castle and an awesome view round every corner of its single-track circular road.  You will also take the opportunity to cross by ferry to the neighbouring island of Eriskay and then by causeway to South Uist, with its constantly changing mountain scenery and colourful, flowery machair, which is home to wildfowl, corncrakes and waders.

'This is a great short break, we were picked up from Glasgow Airport travelling up to Oban where we caught the ferry to the Isle of Barra. The 4.5 hour journey is one of the most scenic in the world. We enjoyed every minute of the holiday.'
